During our stay in California and thanks to the help of The Motorhome Experts, we had the change to drive around in one of Cruise America‘s standard motorhomes with our family. We drove from Los Angeles to Fresno and all around the Sierra Nevada mountain range while enjoying the commodities of home while on the road. Here are our impressions of the vehicle and the service.

Technicalities

The interior included all amenities you can expect from this kind of vehicle. Plenty of storage space, air conditioning, gas stove, microwave, full-sized fridge, kitchen sink and a fully equipped toilet that even included an exterior vanity with its own sink and mirror. The only thing we missed was a TV set that we had previously enjoyed on other motorhomes in Australia. One aspect that we really appreciated was the electric generator that we can’t usually find in RVs from other parts of the world (probably due to legislations). It relieved us from the need to plug the vehicle to use the air-con and microwave and/or recharge the batteries. On autonomy, one full tank cost us approx $200 and lasted for around 400 miles, which I guess it’s not too bad considering the size of the vehicle and the type of roads we traversed (we did a fair amount of mountain driving).

Comfort

Even though the interior was packed with accessories, it felt comfortable and spacious, with enough room to accommodate 5 people comfortably. The state of the vehicle felt brand new with a modern design, quality mattresses and even a sofa booth where the rest of the family could sit and chat while on the move. Although the size of the motorhome was perfect for our family, it is still a big truck (25 feet long and 13 feet high), so we had to adapt to driving such a big vehicle. This was especially tricky when parking and driving in the city.

Service

Although the service at the LA Carson branch where we got the motorhome was excellent, the location of the center was quite inconvenient. The taxi from Los Angeles airport cost us around $50 each way. Another thing to note is that it’s not possible to change the drop-off spot on-site. This has to be arranged beforehand.

Over all we really enjoyed the experience of driving our motorhome through California and we would recommend the service to anyone looking to enjoy a road trip with family or a group of friends.
