Pros:

The exceptionally centric location, (right beside the famous clock tower – Zytglogge) and the living area, perfect to enjoy self-cooked meals and socialize with other hostel guests.

Cons:

Being an old building, some parts of the hostel felt quite small. Also, the fact that there is a nightclub just by the entrance means that lower-floor rooms probably have a lot of noise coming in during weekends.

Situated right in the middle of Bern’s old town, right beside the famous clock tower (Zytglogge), Bern Backpackers is the most centrally located hostel in Bern. Its fully renovated building is actually part of the city’s UNESCO world heritage area. But the centric location is not all that this hostel has to offer — a big common room with a great communal kitchen, laundry, free WI-Fi and a foosball table are just some of the commodities that guests can enjoy 24 hours a day.

Our small but comfortable and cosy room was located on the top floor of the building, offering incredible views of the old city rooftops. It featured a partitioned double bed, a full ensuite bathroom, a freestanding wardrobe and an office table with a small CRT TV. After a long trip around northern Europe, it was all we needed. In fact, we made full use of the hostel’s well-equipped and clean kitchen to prepare a nice dinner for a memorable Valentine’s Day.

The overall feel of the hostel is young and vibrant, making it a perfect base for visiting not only the city of Bern, but other close destinations in Switzerland like Interlaken, Geneva or Zürich. We had a great and comfortable stay at Bern Backpackers and would definitely return the next time we’re in town!
