Tucked within the labyrinth-like city center of Lausanne is the Minotel Crystal Hotel, a small budget hotel just steps from the attractions, restaurants, and places of interest in the Old Town. All rooms overlook the pedestrianized alley that form part of the old town. Just a few minutes’ walk from the Riponne metro station, the hotel has an excellent location, whether you’re here for sightseeing or a business trip.

As a small-scale family hotel, Minotel Crystal exudes a warm, cosy feel. The decor is however quite old-fashioned and out of date – with tired ’70s furnishing throughout the lobby and in the room. Our room was small but its balcony doors and windows made up for it. The kitchen area however is newly renovated, and equipped with a large TV as well as tables and chairs for lounging. There is WiFi throughout the hotel, but it comes with an extra charge, and it didn’t work properly during our stay (most probably due to the rain/snow).

Our favorite feature of the hotel has to be the stunning view from the rooftop. Rooms on the highest story of the hotel have spacious terraces that open up to panoramic views of the city. From our room, we could see the beautiful spirals and clock tower of the Cathedral as well as the banks of Lake Geneva and even the silhouette of the Evian mountain range in France in the far distance.

All in all, we would recommend this hotel if you’re looking for affordable and no-frills accommodation right in the city center.
