The moderately low price of the rooms, the free dinner and the amazing views of the Matterhorn right outside the hostel.

The strict 4pm check-in policy was really inconvenient. Make sure you don't arrive earlier than that if you don't want to wait in the lobby for a few hours. Also, the Wifi only works on the common areas and maybe some lower floor rooms in the main building.

Overall, we think that this Youth Hostel is the best choice for winter sports enthusiasts that want to enjoy the first class slopes in Zermatt without expending hundreds of dollars in accommodation.

Perched in a valley in the middle of the Alps with dozens of snow-filled tracks, Zermatt is a paradise for winter sport enthusiasts. But beyond the snow, Zermatt is a charming town with clusters of wooden lodges and alpine huts stacked on steep slopes and cafes lining snow-filled boulevards. On a clear day, the view of the Matterhorn Mountain from many points of the city is nothing short of spectacular.

If you are thinking of visiting but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars in accommodation, the Youth Hostel Zermatt is probably your best option. Situated next to the center of town, just a few minutes walk or a short bus ride to the city center, this youth hostel is the perfect base to enjoy the snow. Room rates are not only some of the lowest in town, but they include both breakfast and dinner. This is a great bonus considering the high standard of living in Switzerland.

The hostel itself is a lodge-style 5-story building with an attached extension and it offers both dorms and private rooms. The common areas are located on the first and second floors of the main building and include an ample lobby with plenty of sitting space and foosball table and a dinning area. Our room was simple but clean, with everything you would expect from a private room in a hostel. The perfect hideout for a ski retreat.
